Conroe ISD Students Score Higher Than State Average in All STAAR Subjects

Conroe ISD consistently scored higher than the state average on 2016 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness exams, according to data released Monday.

CISD earned a districtwide Met Standard rating with only one campus, Houston Elementary, that needs improvement.

“We’re proud of the hard work of our students and staff,” CISD Superintendent Don Stockton said. “While this is only one measure of students’ learning, it’s another indicator of the great instruction taking place in our classrooms.”

End-of-course exams for high school students included algebra I, biology, English I, English II and U.S. history.

Statewide algebra I scores reflect an 81 percent satisfactory rating, while CISD scores were 89 percent satisfactory. CISD scored 4 percent higher than the state average in biology and U.S. history with a 95 and 98 percent satisfactory rating, respectively.

English I and II test scores were 12 and 13 percent higher than the state average with a 75 and 79 percent satisfactory rating, respectively.

Among grades four through eighth, all students took the reading and math STAAR tests. Statewide, sixth graders scored lowest with a 71 percent satisfactory rating, and eighth graders scored the highest with an 82 percent satisfactory rating in reading. In CISD, seventh graders scored the lowest with an 82 percent satisfactory rating, and eighth graders scored the highest with a 90 percent satisfactory rating in reading.

Statewide math scores indicate seventh graders scored the lowest with a 71 percent satisfactory rating, and fifth graders scored the highest with a 79 percent satisfactory rating. In CISD, seventh graders scored lowest with a 78 percent satisfactory rating, and eighth graders scored the highest with a 90 percent satisfactory rating.

CISD fourth graders scored 12 percent higher on the STAAR writing exam than the state average with an 81 percent satisfactory rating, and seventh graders scored 10 percent higher than the state average with 80 percent.

In social studies and science, eighth grade scores in CISD were 80 percent and 89 percent satisfactory, respectively. CISD eighth graders scored 15 percent higher in social studies and 13 percent higher in science than the state average. CISD fifth graders also scored 13 percent higher than the state average in science with an 88 percent satisfactory rating.
